Obituary of Geraldine Burke

Geraldine F. Burke, age 88 of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully on March 26, 2021 at home surrounded by her family. Born and raised in Chester, PA, she was a longtime resident of Wilmington, DE. Geraldine was a music teacher and professional musician who excelled at playing the violin and had great passion for playing music. Geraldine also worked for Dupont in the Photo Product Division retiring in 1994. She graduated from Notre Dame' High School and was a longtime member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church where she played her violin in the choir. As a teacher she built the Strings Program at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at The University of Delaware, she was a Concertmaster for the Brandywine Pops Orchestra, and played in the Delaware Symphony. She enjoyed painting, sewing, knitting and loved to spoil her grandchildren Michael and Sam. In addition to her parents, Joseph Z. and Anna V. Kalinowski Foremny, Geraldine is preceded in death by her husband, William G. Burke who passed in 1999, son, 1st Lt. William G. Burke Jr. (USMA 90') who passed in 1993, 3 siblings; Madeline Cech, Joseph Foremny Jr. and Joanne Viehman. She is survived by 2 children, Ginny (Bob) Hill and Mary (Bill) Wahl, 2 grandchildren, Michael Marino and Sam Wahl. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 from 11:00-12:00PM at the Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Rd., Garnet Valley, PA followed by a Funeral Mass at 1:00PM at St. Anne Catholic Church, 2013 Gilpin Ave., Wilmington, DE. Interment will be private at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the OSHER Academy of Lifelong Learning at The University of Delaware olli.udel.edu .
