Obituary of Gregory Kramedas

It is with heavy heart that we announce the passing of Gregory Kramedas, age 87 of Wilmington, DE. Gregory was born in a small village called Trapezondi, on the outskirts of Sparti, Greece. He grew up under the hardships of WWII and the Greek Civil War (1946 - 1949). With the help of his father, ambition for a better life and his work ethic led him to immigrate to the United States in 1951 at the age of 17. He immediately went to work in the restaurant industry and began to learn the English language. Gregory never forgot the family he left behind in Greece; he saved enough from his earnings so that he was able to send money to his family to help sustain them during austere financial difficulties experienced by many in Greece at that time. On a return trip to Greece in 1961, he met and married the love of his life, Matoula. Gregory and Matoula returned to the U.S. and began their life together. They worked side by side for decades in their many businesses. Their love and dedication to their families led them to help their siblings immigrate to the U.S. Prior to his retirement in 1996, Gregory was the proud owner of Gregory's Sub Shop in Wilmington where he was very well known to his loyal customers and friends. He enjoyed gardening, westerns and was a great fan of the Phillies. Gregory remained humble and a hard worker his entire life. He always contributed by sending donations to his hometown village ambulance fund in Sparti, Greece. Gregory is pre-deceased by his parents, George and Eleni (Stavrakos) Kromedas. His eldest brother, Theodore and, sadly, pre-deceased by his eldest son George (Hope) in 2020. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Matoula; daughter, Helen Scotese (Michael); son, Theodore; his grandchildren, Michael (Danielle), Nicholas, Amanda and Ava. Also surviving him are his sisters, Cleopatra Govostes (Tom) Maria Chahalis (James) Voula Fotakos (Panayiotis) and his brother Kostadinos Kromedas (Vasiliki).
