Obituary of Chester R. McGhee

Chester Rhea McGhee, age 80 of Wilmington, Delaware passed away peacefully on Friday, August 12, 2016 after a brief illness and with his loving daughter by his side. Born in 1936 in Lake City, Tennessee to Sarah and Elbert McGhee, the family relocated to Marcus Hook, Pennsylvania in 1938. Chester (or Rebel as he was affectionately known), proudly served in the United States Army. Upon leaving the military, Chester was employed by General Chemical's Claymont Delaware facility as a Welder, retiring after 43 years of service. Chester was a two-time cancer survivor that handled his diagnosis and treatment with strength and grace. Chester was pre-deceased by the love of his life, wife Elizabeth Ann McGhee, whom he married in 1960. He was also pre-deceased by his parents Sarah and Elbert McGhee, sisters Mildred O'Hara (Scott) and Mamie Pitts and brother William McGhee. Chester is survived by his loving daughter and caretaker Kimberly McGhee-Gould, son-in-law Eric, his loving grandson Evan, his brother Norman (Robin), sister Joanne (Franklin), nieces and nephews and his grandcat Bandit. The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of St. Francis Hospital of Wilmington, DE for their skill and compassionate care. Relatives and friends are invited to Chester's Funeral Service on Saturday, August 20, 11AM at the Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Rd, Garnet Valley, PA where friends may call from 10-11AM. Interment will remain private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Delaware Humane Association, 701 A Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.
