Obituary of David A. Larkin
David Larkin, age 84, late of Cherry Plain, NY, died on December 2, 2020. Born 10/14/1936 in Ilford, Essex, England, David was a renowned book designer, editor, and art director. He began drawing at 3, won a national poster contest at 6, was a cartographer for British Army Intelligence at 18, and became the youngest art director in London in his early 20's. He worked on the early development of large format paperbacks, and later began designing art books, which he called "illustrated documentaries". David published more than 100 books including Faeries, The National Air & Space Museum, Shaker, and When Art Worked. He is survived by Sabra, his wife of 40 years; his brother Colin Larkin of London; three daughters- Kay Larkin of London, Sally Larkin Jones of Bristol, and Anna Erwin-Iles of London; three grandchildren- Katherine Blyth, Emma Blyth and Elliott Jones; and his in-laws, Grace and Blair Messner of Wilmington. Services will be private.
