Obituary of Joan S. Esterling

Joan S. Esterling, age 84, born to the late, Charles C. and Lorraine Miller, passed away on November 30, 2020 at her home, surrounded by her family. Joan was a very family oriented person, whose last wish was to be home for Thanksgiving Day to be with her family for the holiday. Born in Trainer, PA, she and her late husband of 43 years, William H. Esterling, Jr., chose to raise their family in Upland, PA. In addition to being a homemaker, Joan at one time was a crossing guard for Upland borough during her children's elementary school years. Joan was a very compassionate person who cared for her husband as he battled a long illness before passing in 1998. Joan later decided to travel. She visited places from Ireland to the islands, or to wherever she wanted to discover. She went on various cruises and trips, and was always "on the go". As Joan became disabled herself, her daughter, Joanie, left her home in Washington to care for her mother. Joan's son, Billy, always made sure her car was in top shape so she could continue to travel . Her daughter, Lorie, planned many mini adventures for them. Joan was well loved and admired for her loving, caring, and family oriented personality. Joan was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles of Wilmington, DE and the Claymont Moose Lodge. She enjoyed singing and dancing with her family and friends, and never smoked or drank alcohol. She became a "mom" to many over the years. Joan is survived by 3 children, Joan Stevens, William H. III (Denise) Esterling, and Mary "Lorie" Nickson, a brother, Dr. Charles C. Jr. (Patricia) Miller, 9 grandchildren, Kelly (Steven) Sheridan, John Jr. (Nina) Nickson, Patricia (Dustin) Ward, Russell Stevens Jr., Mark Nickson Sr., Charles "Clint" Stevens, Gregory (Krysti) Nickson, Michael Bucella and Jordan Esterling, 18 great grandchildren, Addison, Abbey, Aaron, Colin, Gavin, Dylan, John, David, Anthony, Zachary, Mark, Shane, Natalie, Jackson, Bailey, Tryniti, Aubreigh and Gregory. A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 5, from 10-11AM at the Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Rd., Garnet Valley, PA followed by funeral services at 11:00AM. Interment, Edgewood Memorial Park, Glen Mills, PA. Online condolences may be made by visiting (www.paganofuneralhome.com).
