Obituary of Robert S. Mitchell Jr.

Robert (Bob) S. Mitchell Jr., age 91 of Upper Chichester, PA passed away peacefully on July 26, 2020 at home surrounded by his family. Born and raised in Chester, PA, he resided for the past 54 years in Upper Chichester, previously residing in Linwood, PA. A maintenance manager, Robert worked for a local tube manufacturer for 46 years retiring in 1995. Robert graduated from Chester High School, Class of 1947. Afterwards, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean War with the 5th Air Command receiving the U.N. Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Marksman Award. Robert was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 5447 and enjoyed all sports, collecting sports memorabilia and was an avid Eagles fan. Most of all he enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Robert S. Sr. and Lauretta Sykes Mitchell, Robert is preceded in death by his wife, Edith "Pat" Greenhalgh Mitchell who passed in 2014, brother, Franklin Mitchell who passed in 2018 and a grandson, James Gillespie who passed in 2017. Robert is survived by 4 children, Cheryl (Bill Joyce) Gillespie, Robert S. III (Kathleen) Mitchell, William N. (Tina) Mitchell and Cynthia P. (John) Graham, 8 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, sister, Laurie (Charles) Kaiser . A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2020, 9-10AM at the Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Rd., Garnet Valley, PA followed by funeral services at 10:00AM. Interment, Lawn Croft Cemetery, Linwood, PA. Donations in his memory may be made to VFW Post 5447 Hall-Burke, 1605 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, DE 19809.
