Obituary of Leighton "Lee" Wright Jones, M.D.

Leighton "Lee" Wright Jones, M.D., age 87, of Wilmington, DE passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 after a battle with Covid-19 at Wilmington Hospital - ChristianaCare. Born in Scranton, PA, Lee has resided in Wilmington, DE for the past 32 years previously residing in Swarthmore, PA. Lee was a Captain in the Army during the Korean conflict. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his Medical Doctorate from the Hahnamen Medical School. Throughout his long career in Pennsylvania and Delaware, Lee developed the Early Childhood Program at Crozer-Chester Medical Center. He also worked in Paoli. In DE, while working at the Terry Children's Center, he also worked at several locations including; Delaware Guidance Center, Rockford, and Middletown RTC, before retiring as a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist from the State of Delaware. Although his profession was was psychiatry, his true passion was music. Lee was accomplished at playing various brass instruments as well as piano and arranged music for several local bands. He could always be seen wearing his signature bow tie. He was an avid tennis player. Lee was an avid traveler and practiced Psychiatry in Scotland for three years at the Royal Children's Hospital. He is preceded in death by his parents, Wright Broadbent Jones and Ruth Phillips Jones, and his brother, Stanford Broadbent Jones. Lee is survived by his beloved wife, Kathleen "Kate" Taylor, his offspring; Nahmi L. Jones, DVM, Eurhi Jones (David McShane), and Glendon Jones, his granddaughters, Violet and Pearl McShane, and three nephews and nieces. His cats, Ramona and Harriet were his best buddies. Lee was a humble and humorous man who left the world a better place. He will be missed dearly. A visitation will take place on Wednesday, June 30, from 3-4PM followed by a memorial service at 4PM.
