You always think you have time. I remember the last time I saw Mark he was walking out of Mealy’s Furniture in Moorestown, NJ. I approached the sales consultant who had helped him to see if I could confirm it was him. This was circa 2003. I never did track him down, but thought of him often. I knew him as the Circles Lounge head bartender in the Cherry Hill Hyatt where I worked with him circa 1990. I appreciated his presence. I remember whenever he was working, especially on a big Comedy Cabaret night, he would have me go to the DJ booth and put on Vickers Mix I or Lounge Mix depending on the mood he wanted to set. I remember Vickers Mix I kicked off with “Bad Man’s Song” by Tears for Fears and to this day that song takes me back to those Hyatt nights in the Lounge. If I’m not mistaking, most of the music “mix tapes” were Mark’s. A true Mixologist with music and liquor. Thanks to Mark, I learned the music of Basia and Sade. On many occasions we had these guests that would come into the Lounge and order food which came from the Hyatt’s “Ginsberg & Wong” restaurant. They always consulted us (the bar and wait staff) on what to order and we always selected something tasty that we were feeling. Remarkably, every single time, they would either be upset with the selection or even leave before it arrived. Not wanting to let good food go to waste, we would all split the food that would later be written off. He had a wonderful snobbish ambiance that was reflected in his dialect as much as his delicious style. And he certainly did love Cancun. And he was hysterical. He had the ability to talk without barely moving his mouth. He would no sooner get done delightfully conversing with certain less desirable patrons before turning away and telling me how he really felt as he walked away. Before I could even process his brilliance he had already broke out in that laugh of his. Mark was an A list Hollywood actor and the bar was his set; he is one of only a few that I wish that I had kept up with, though I’m sure this would have been much more painful to live had I. Still, selfishness aside, the years of laughter and fun would have been worth the pain. It’s difficult to know the right words, but just in my extremely brief role, I was fortunate to experience and enjoy Mark’s fun and charismatic essence; the good times were abundant. To Mark’s friends and family, I extend my deepest sympathy and condolences. To Mark, I will raise a glass tonight. Bottoms up.

Dear Vickers Family:
Words cannot express the sadness we felt in the passing of our dear brother and friend, Mark Vickers. Mark began his Marriott career at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown hotel December 30, 1994. Mark was a host in the Food and Beverage department holding positions such as Lead Bartender in the Champion’s Sports Bar for 14 years, moving to the Restaurant as bartender for another 4 years, and later in the Circ Lounge where he spent his last days with Marriott.
Mark was a member of Marriott’s Quarter Century Club which is an achievement many of us aspire to and hope to one day achieve. Mark was also a charter member of the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown and helped open the largest hotel in Pennsylvania. His over 25 years at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown was filled with fun times as he was always the life of the party.
A peer remembered him fondly by stating, “Mark had a tremendous impact on all who got to know him. He'll be deeply missed…”
We are forever grateful, for the hard work, life, expertise, dedication, and years of service he gave the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown.
We hope you might find comfort in knowing that we loved Mark. We share in this time of grief, but also share in the love and memories of Mark. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
Sincerely,
The Philadelphia Marriott Downtown

Dear Vickers Family,
We have many fond memories of Mark, but our favorite memories are from sitting on the beach in Longport and hearing him tell work stories, fixing his old cars up or just stories of living in the city.
Mark had a fun loving and easy going manner about him, and laughter was never far away.
Rest In Peace, Mark, you may be gone but you will not be forgotten!
Love,
Steve and Liz Collins

I first met Mark in 1998, when we moved into one of the Duplexes where he lived. He knew the rules and made sure we did too! Mark really cared about our community. You would always see him taking the initiative to clean up the street after trash collection. Not just in front of his house, the whole section of the street, because he cared. Mark and I became friends and would chat often. I could call him about any home improvement question and he would have an answer. Most importantly, Mark knew how to make you laugh. His laugh was just so infectious. I spoke with Mark a few months ago to just check in to see how he was doing, especially in the time of COVID-19. I wanted to make sure he was taking care of himself. Mark told me he was staying in NJ to be closer to family. Throughout, he sounded upbeat, positive that he was on the right track. Hearing of his passing today was a shock and brought tears. Mark, your soul was a gentle one. Rest in perfect peace, my friend. I will miss you and all that you were.

Thank you for your kind words. Mark so loved the Fairmount Mews and took great pride in his community. He was very upbeat and fought a valiant battle against this horrible disease. He is definitely watching over all of us. We appreciate your friendship to Mark and your support to the family at this difficult time.

Mark, my friend of 45+ years. You will be dearly missed by Karen, Juliana and myself. A couple of things that I remember most:
- The bitterly cold Eagles game that you went to with us. You dressed to the "T" with your Italian loafers and nifty sweater. Its a shame that you didn't wear a warm jacket! Boy was it cold.
- 20 some years ago, the legendary weekend nights at the shore going to The Green House, Maloney's, Blavit's, Maynard's, Moyland's...
- And I'll never forget the EPIC trip to Cancun and the Dunas! "Mark The Arc". The name that will live in infamy.
We will miss you Mark.
