Leon was such a sweet man. I just watched the service livestream and everything said about his love for Thelma was so evident in the way he looked at her and depended on her. Leon and my father, Larry were roommates for awhile at Granite Farms and my family and I came to know Leon and Thelma well. We had many nights around the table while Leon and Larry were having dinner. They were both veterans and shared the same work ethics (my father was a builder) and a similar sense of humor. My father had dementia but Leon always made him smile and they always had a joke for each other. He just loved every minute with Thelma and sometimes I would come in and there they were both catching a nap while holding hands. Such a sweet couple! Leon would have some wisecrack or funny comment and Thelma would say "oh Lee!" and he would just laugh. He had a smile that just lit up. I know from all our conversations that Lee like my father was always working and they liked to share stories. Unfortunately, my father because of his dementia would share a few stories that were highly exaggerated or not real but I would just look at Thelma and she would smile and she knew. Thelma was there every day faithfully and when I missed a day, the next day she would give me a full report on my Dad. She always watched out for him too and I always knew that she would let me know if anything went wrong. Thelma, I have thought about you both since my Dad passed and was so sad to see Lee's obituary in the paper. I will always remember Leon and you and you are both part of my fond memories of times spent with my Dad at Granite Farms. You had a love that not many people can match so I know all those special moments will keep Leon's memory alive in your heart.
