Obituary of Stephen Paul Ream

Stephen Paul Ream, age 79 of Brookhaven, PA, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2024, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Steve graduated from East Pennsboro High School in 1962. He graduated from Devry Institute in Chicago, IL, with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Later he went back to school at Widner University where he attended night school to learn computer programming. Upon graduation, he transferred from the engineering department to software development where he was a mainframe software engineer working for Bell Atlantic Co. for 19 years until 1990, and later for Altair and Allen System's Group where he worked as an IBM mainframe software developer until age 70. Steve had a passion for the railroad, often going on steam and antique diesel train excursions and was a model railroad enthusiast. He was a classically trained operatic baritone singer and sang with several Philadelphia area groups including Vox and Mainline Opera.. He also enjoyed theater and was an actor at the Rose Valley Chorus and Orchestra. Steve was very active, he loved roller skating and competed in artistic roller skating dance competitions with his wife Susan. Devoted to his faith, Steve was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Brookhaven, PA, where he volunteered his time in service to Jesus Christ as the chair of trustees, chair of finance, and bass singer in the church choir. He enjoyed spending time at his second home in Vacation Cove in Oneida, PA. Steve's greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family, especially his grandson, Jackson. In addition to his parents, Edward and Kathryn Dekona Ream, Steve is preceded in death by his brothers; Charles and Bill Ream. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Susan Howlett Ream, son, Mark (Paulette) Ream, sister, Toni (John) Thumma, and a grandson, Jackson Ream. A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 4th from 10-11AM at the Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Rd., Garnet Valley, PA, followed by a Funeral Service at 11AM. Entombment will be held privately at Lawn Croft Garden Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Christ United Methodist Church, 600 E Dutton Mill Rd, Brookhaven, PA 19015.
