Obituary of Dorothy May Rooney

Dorothy May "Dot" Rooney, age 85 of Wilmington, DE passed away on March 7, 2024 at Harbor Chase Assisted Living. Born to William and Dorothy Crawshaw Martin in Philadelphia, PA, she has resided for the past 63 years in Wilmington, DE. Dot was an incredible homemaker and loved caring for her home and family. She enjoyed worldwide travel and taking trips to Wildwood, NJ. She loved the beach and being in the garden. She liked to babysit and was known to many children as "Mommy Dot."  She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, James W. Rooney (2019), her siblings, Mary Jane Alverson, William Martin, and Joseph Martin, and her son-in-law, Samuel Apperson. She is survived by her children, Deborah Apperson and Janet Rooney, and grandchildren, Elizabeth Apperson, Dominique Ercolino, and Gabriel Ercolino. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 12th from 10-11AM at Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Rd, Garnet Valley, PA followed by a funeral service at 11AM. Interment will take place Wednesday, March 13th, at 1PM at Chester Rural Cemetery, Chester, PA. Donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org).
