Obituary of James P. Hampson

James Patrick Hampson, age 88, of Wilmington, DE died peacefully on November 13, 2023 surrounded by his family.

Born to the late Patrick and Mary (Gilroy) Hampson in Philadelphia, he resided over 50 years in the Channin Development in Wilmington, DE, previously residing in Darby, PA. After serving in the US Army during the Korean War, he worked at General Electric for over 35 years, he retired in 2000. He then started to explore his new passion of golf. He joined the Hercules County Club and also enjoyed playing at Delcastle. A member of Church of the Holy Child, he volunteered to teach CCD for many years to the 8th grade class. He was also very involved with the Talleyville Girls softball league, and the swim meets at Del Vets swim club. That said, his real passion was spending time with his grandkids and traveling especially to Florida and Ireland to visit family.

He is survived by his 2 sons, James S. (Pina) Hampson of Dewey Beach, DE and Patrick F. Hampson of Newark, DE; 3 daughters, Anne Marie (Don) Frampton of Wilmington, DE, Maureen (Ed) Carp of Wilmington, DE and Michelle Hampson of Newark, DE; sister Margaret Coldren of Doylestown, PA, and 6 grandchildren, Eddie, Connor and Megan Carp, Jimmy Hampson and Emma and Katie Frampton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Hampson and brothers Patrick (Junior) and John Hampson.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 18 from 9:30 until 10:30 am at Church of the Holy Child, 2500 Naamans Road, Wilmington, DE with a Funeral Mass to follow at 10:30 am. Interment will be at St. Joseph's on the Brandywine Cemetery, Greenville, DE.
