Obituary of William J. Dilcher

William J. Dilcher, "Bill", age 84, of Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, passed away on October 22, 2023, at Riddle Memorial Hospital. He was born in Vinton, Iowa and raised on a farm in Dysart, Iowa by his late parents, John E. and Barbara Tschetter Dilcher. Bill graduated from Garrison High School, Garrison, Iowa in 1957. Growing up, Bill played high school basketball, raised top winning barrow hogs at the fair and other awards. He would then obtain his Bachelor's Degree from Iowa State University in Industrial Engineering. Bill was a member of the Acacia Fraternity. After graduating from ISU, Bill was inducted into the Army where he worked at the Underground Pengagon at Fort Ritchie, Maryland during the Cold War. During this time he met his wife, Judy, and they began their life together. Bill began working for DuPont in Tennessee. He worked for DuPont for 29 years, in both Tennessee and Delaware, before retiring in 1993. After retiring, Bill returned to one of his first loves, driving! He took a job as a courier. His love for driving and travel began as a 14 year old, driving his parents and sister on a cross country trip from Iowa to California, up to Washington state and back to Iowa. He continued driving his family on many vacation trips across the country.

Bill was a family man and with Judy raised three children. He enjoyed watching sports, especially sports that his children and grandchildren played. He was supportive in all circumstances. He was an educator, friend, instructor, coach and most of all a loving dad, who would go to the ends of the earth to get whatever they wanted or needed. He was always available to provide assistance to his friends and family, and even strangers from time to time! Bill also loved to travel back to Iowa to visit the family farm and watch the corn and soybeans grow. He especially enjoyed riding the combine during harvest.

Bill was also a devoted member of Elam United Methodist Church. He sang in the church choir and served on various committees. He was a trustee for many years and you could often seeing him taking on tasks at the church, including changing light bulbs.

He is survived by his wife, Judith "Judy" Dilcher of 61 years, 3 children; Bryan (Heather) Dilcher, Malinda "Mindy" (Ed) Shubert, and Ann (Ivan) Figueroa, his sister Leona (Richard) Dostal, 7 grandchildren; Zach (Rosie) Dilcher, Hannah (Mike) Smith, Jake (Melissa) Dilcher, William (Erica DiMaio) Shubert, Chanel, Isabella (Joe Strazza), and Cecelia Figueroa, and 3 great-grandchildren; Mikey and McCoy Smith and Giovanni Strazza.

A viewing for Bill will take place on Saturday, October 28, 2023 from 9:45-10:45AM at Elam United Methodist Church, 1073 Smithbridge Road, Glen Mills, Pennsylvania.

The Service will follow at 11AM at the church. Interment will be at Elam United Methodist Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be sent to Elam United Methodist Church. Online Condolences may be made by visiting www.paganofuneralhome.com
