Visitation at Funeral Home
Gestures
I am deeply saddened to hear of Dr Shah's passing. He was my OT professor some 30 years ago impressing us with his passion, competence and involvement of people at the receiving end of our profession's services. He also articulated a powerful vision and methodology for our profession's potential to benefit society, if we remembered to be person / client focused. He was assertive and could have been arrogant but instead he was truly caring. I will be forever grateful for him looking out for me when I was struggling. More recently he reconnected through online OT networks and supported my community work and activism here in Australia, again something he didn't have to do as a 'professional'. He was a real man, a good man. Hope you know the impact you had on me and others Surya. Thank you to your family for sharing you with us.
Surya was head of school and lecturer during my years as student in occupational therapy at University of Qld, Australia - 1977 - 1980. As well as being a fine academic and adding significantly to our practice standards for stroke rehab, Surya was a delightful gentleman.
I often drove him to and from pracs around Brisbane and enjoyed his company and good humour. Those days were pre-computerisation, and Surya carried the entire and only copy of his PHD research with him at all times in a locked briefcase! I will always think of him with fondness and respect.
Surya was a professor of mine years ago, but he went beyond that. He never missed telling me happy birthday in over 13 years. He was always there for me to listen when the struggles of life got me down. He was an amazing man and will truly be missed.
