Obituary of Devon Kayley Lengel

Devon Kayley Lengel (9/3/03 - 8/11/18) Everyone's Angel, Devon Lengel, passed away suddenly on 8/11/18. She was 14 years old. She is survived by her parents, Kim and Dave Lengel, and her brother Nathan, all of Glen Mills, PA; her grandparents Louis and Betty Trautmann of Audubon, PA, and Quentin and Elizabeth Lengel of West Grove, PA; as well as many adoring aunts, uncles, and cousins. Devon was born on 9/3/03 as a 24-week preterm infant, weighing just 1 lb 6 oz. Her premature birth presented her with heart, lung, and brain-related challenges. She was also blind from birth, despite multiple eye surgeries. These issues required the attention of many skilled professionals throughout her life, for whom Devon's family is extremely grateful. As a result of all the wonderful help and care she received, Devon matured into an extremely loving, giving, intelligent, witty and talented young lady. Devon loved musicals, especially the Sound of Music, as well as singing and acting for her school, church, and theater group, Acting Without Boundaries. She enjoyed hiking, swimming, yoga, and soccer, but especially tandem bike riding with her mom. She was awarded a new tandem bike and a family trip to Disney World from the Faces of Fearless Independence BC/BS contest, an award from the PA state Bureau of Blindness for Excellence in Braille proficiency, as well as several academic awards from her beloved school, St. Lucy's. She enjoyed participating in the West Chester University Adapted PE program, riding horses at Quest Therapeutic services, and summer camps at the Shining Stars Adapted Dance camp, the Helen Diller Vacation Home for Blind Children, and the NFB Bell program. Devon also loved serving many others through volunteering at the Siloam UMC "Loaves of Love" food pantry, by reading to residents at the Glen Mills Senior Living Center, and by making necklaces for her many relatives and friends. On top of all of this was Devon's love of reading and writing short stories. Her memory was amazing and it helped her learn much, and remember a joke for virtually any topic. Devon leaves behind many family and friends who were genuinely touched by her almost 15 years on this planet. Visitation will be from 3-5 pm on Sunday, August 19, 2018 at Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Rd., Garnet Valley, PA 19060 Funeral services will begin at 11 am on Monday, August 20, 2018 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 10 W Pleasant Grove Rd., West Chester, PA 19382. Burial will follow at Siloam United Methodist Church, 3720 Foulk Rd., Garnet Valley, PA 19060. In lieu of flowers, Devon's family requests donations be made to Saint Lucy Day School - 4251 L St, Philadelphia, PA 19124. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.paganofuneralhome.com.
