John “Smokey” Merwin

Smokey Merwin, of Boothwyn, PA, formerly of Upland, passed away at The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania on July 1st, 2026. He was surrounded by his family. He was 73 years old.

He was born in Upland, PA, to Romana Bustoz and Joe Merwin. Smokey attended Collingdale High School. He was an electrician by trade owning his own business.Later, he was employed by Yerkes Engineer Associates as an inspector. He also worked for Entech Engineering. 

Smokey was a devoted husband and father. He loved sharing his construction knowledge with his girls. He also enjoyed partaking in peep tasting videos with his daughter Nicki.  

Smokey loved riding his motorcycle later transitioning to a trike so he can continue riding. 

Smokey was a member of PCOM 69 Freedom Riders for over 25 years. Dedicated to the past, present, and future of PCOM; retiring as president of PCOM Freedom Riders in 2025.

Smokey  is survived by his beloved wife Jackie “Bandit” of 42 years; his daughters Katelyn (Rob) Willard and Nicole (Chuck) Maher; siblings Jack (Sarah) Merwin and Vicky Mushrush, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings Flo Ruby, Michael Merwin, Billy Merwin, Mary Merwin, Joseph Merwin, and Ramona Saldutti.

Family and friends are invited to attend his visitation on July 9, 2026 10:00-12:00 PM at Pagano Funeral Home 3711 Foulk Rd. Garnet Valley, PA. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM.
