Obituary of Frances B. Zalewski
Frances “Fran” B. Zalewski, of Trainer, PA, passed away at her home on April 29, 2026. She was 89 years old.
She was born and raised in Chester, PA, to the late Frank and Mildred Woronicak Kokoszka. Fran pursued her education in nursing, completing three years of college and earning an associate degree in Nursing from West Chester University. She also completed her nursing training at Chester County Hospital.
She loved spending time with her family above all things. Fran was also an avid traveler who explored destinations across the country and took great pride in having completed 54 cruises. Closer to home, she cherished time spent with her senior community, especially at Sage Diner and the Chester Senior Center. She found joy in creativity as well, making crafts for all occasions and generously sharing them throughout the community.
Fran’s life was marked by extraordinary dedication to public service and volunteering. She served as Mayor of Trainer Borough for 12 years and contributed to the Trainer Board of Health for 23 years. Her commitment extended to the Trainer Borough Council for 8 years, the Trainer Recreation Board for 4 years, and the Environmental Advisory Council for 16 years.
Her impact reached far beyond local government. Fran devoted 35 years to the District 19 Little League Tournament Director, shaping generations of young athletes. She also served as Treasurer of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 87 for 11 years and volunteered with the Delaware County American Legion Auxiliary for 7 years. Additionally, she gave her time to the Chichester Crusaders Athletic Association for 7 years, volunteered at the Veteran Hospital for 9 years, and supported Trainer Magic Cheerleading for 4 years.
In addition to her parents, Fran is preceded in death by her late husband, Anthony Zalewski, her sons Kevin Zalewski Sr. and Dennis Michkelkiewicz, and her brothers Frank and John Kokoszka.
Fran is survived by her children, David Zalewski Sr. and Dawn Phillips. Her sister Ann Lane, as well as her seven grandchildren, Kevin Jr., David Jr., Anthony, Candice, Jason, Taylor, Ian and ten great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to attend her visitation on Friday, May 8, 2026, 9:00-10:45 AM at St. John Fisher Catholic Church, 4225 Chichester Ave, Boothwyn, PA. A funeral mass will follow at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cemetery, Linwood, PA.
