Obituary of Marion Catherine Kagel
Marion C. Kagel ("Cathy"), CCC-SLP], a devoted speech-language pathologist, respected researcher, and influential leader in the field of speech and language pathology, passed away on April 28, 2026, at the age of 83.
Throughout a distinguished career spanning five decades, Marion demonstrated an unwavering commitment to improving communication, advancing clinical knowledge, and mentoring the next generation of speech-language pathologists. She earned her degree(s) from Old Dominion and Villanova Universities and served in clinical, academic, and professional roles at Crozer Chester Medical Center, Mercy Fitzgerald, and the VA of Wilmington, where she was widely respected for both clinical expertise and thoughtful leadership.
As a clinician, Marion was known for compassionate, client-centered care and a deep belief in the power of communication to improve quality of life. Her practice was grounded in evidence-based intervention and a strong respect for the individual strengths and needs of each person served.
In addition to clinical work, Marion made lasting contributions to the field through published research in the American Journal of Medicine. Her work on dysphagia continues to inform clinical practice, education, and future research within the profession. She frequently presented at professional conferences and collaborated with colleagues across disciplines.
A recognized leader, Marion, held influential roles including department chair, program director, clinical supervisor, board member, or professional association leader. She is survived by her daughter, Francine Miksche and her husband Uwe Miksche and her sister, Stephanie (Palma) Pallini, who take comfort in the promise of everlasting life.
