Obituary of Daniel J. Murphy
Daniel Murphy, age 82, of Garnet Valley, PA, passed away on April 26, 2026, at Riddle Memorial Hospital.
Born and raised in Havertown, PA, Dan was the son of the late James and Elizabeth (Ball) Murphy. He later made his home in the Foxfield Development of Garnet Valley in 2012, after many years living in Springfield and Drexel Hill, PA.
Dan was a proud graduate of Monsignor Bonner High School and La Salle University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree. He dedicated over 30 years of his life to shaping young minds as an Elementary School Teacher with the Philadelphia School District before retiring in 1997. His commitment to education left a lasting impact on countless students and families.
Devoted to his faith, he is a member of St. John Fisher Catholic Church. Dan was deeply rooted in his faith and community. Above all, he cherished his family and found great joy in spending time with them—along with his beloved granddog, Atlas.
Dan is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Virginia “Ginny” Murphy; his son, Brendan Murphy; and his siblings: James (Mary Jo), John Murphy, and Kathleen (James) Gavin. He is also survived by his nieces, Meghan Gavin and Beth Rose Hayden; his nephews, Brian Gavin and Michael Murphy; as well as many cousins and extended family in Ireland and Northern Ireland.
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026, from 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM at St. John Fisher Catholic Church 4225 Chichester Ave. Boothwyn, Pennsylvania. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 AM. A live stream of the mass will be available at www.stjohnfisherchurch.com. Interment will remain private.
