Obituary of William Robert Abell III
William Robert Abell III, age 86, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully on April 11th, 2026 at Rose Court at Maris Grove. Born and raised in Baltimore, MD, Bob received his Bachelors Degree in Chemistry from the University of Maryland.
Bob moved to Wilmington in 1962 to work for the DuPont company where he met his wife and they married in 1965 and enjoyed 47 years of marriage. He went on to become a Chemist for 35 years with DuPont in the Elastomer's Division.After his retirement in 1997, he co-founded his own business, Advanced Polymer Alloys where he was CEO for 7 years. Bob later started his own consulting company.
He was a member of the American Chemical Society and the Society of Plastic Engineers. He also enjoyed gardening, astronomy and spending summers at his 2nd home in Avalon, NJ.
In addition to his parents, William R. Abell Jr and Carolyn Dodge Abell, he is preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Thomas Abell who died in 2012, and a brother Wayne Abell. Bob is survived by his daughter and her husband, Nancy L. and Todd Frey, a sister, Aleta Unverzagt, a granddaughter, Abigail Frey, 2 nephews, Ronald Unverzagt and Eric Unverzagt and a niece, Amy Unverzagt.
A visitation will be held on April 16th, Thursday evening from 7-8pm and again on Friday from 9-10AM at the Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Rd., Garnet Valley, PA followed by a Funeral service at 10:00AM. Interment, All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington, DE.
