Obituary of Paul Joseph Miller

Paul J. Miller, Ed.D., age 94, of Glen Mills, PA, passed away on April 1, 2026, at Riddle Memorial Hospital. Born in Johnstown, PA, he was raised on his family farm in Soap Hollow and graduated from Conemaugh Twp HS in 1949. Paul was named Outstanding wrestler and was both sectional and regional champion his senior year at 95 lbs. He attended California State (PA) Teachers College before transferring to Penn State University, where he earned his degree in Agricultural Education in 1953. Paul was a proud PSU alumnus and was a PSU Pioneer. Following graduation, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served from 1953-1956. After his military service, Paul embarked on a 33-year career in education, working both in Lancaster and Delaware counties. He ended his career as a District Administrator for the Garnet Valley School District. During this time, he also earned his Master's and Doctorate in Education from Temple University.

Paul was an avid traveler who visited all 50 states as well as Mexico and Canada. He loved attending the school and sporting events of his kids and grandkids. Paul had a passion for golf, earning numerous awards over the years, including medals in the Delco and Keystone State Senior Games and the distinction of achieving a hole-in-one. Paul and his family lived in Aston, PA, for over 40 years before moving to Maris Grove in 2009. At Maris Grove, he became active in many clubs, including a Penn State Alumni club. In retirement, he served as an advisor for the PA Pharmacy Board, PASR, and Kumon Schools.

Paul was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Bernice Miller (Sala); his parents, Leroy and Lizzie Miller; and his sister, Melda Miller.

He is survived by his three children: Alan Miller (Marilyn) of Downingtown PA; Barbara Miller (Ron Eisenacher) of Aston, PA; and Christine Layer (Tim) of Thornton, PA. Five grandchildren: Megan Dougherty (Sean), Ben Miller (Christine), Shannon Gamble (Adam Crellin), Erin Layer, and Shane Layer. Five great-grandchildren: Everett and Ada Dougherty, Riley, Caroline, and Macie Miller.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026, from 9:30-11:30 am at the Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Rd, Garnet Valley, PA. Internment will be private.
