Obituary of Margaret A. Maiale
Margaret “Peg” A. Maiale (Marion), 85, passed away on February 16, 2026, at Riddle Memorial Hospital. Born in 1940 in Chester, PA, was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, cherished sister, treasured friend, and beloved teacher whose warmth touched generations. She grew up in nearby Eddystone and graduated from Eddystone High School in 1958, carrying with her the kindness and determination that would define her life.
Peg attended East Stroudsburg State College, where fate introduced her to the love of her life, Jim. Their meeting began a beautiful partnership grounded in faith, laughter, and unwavering devotion. She graduated in 1962 with a degree in education, and in June of that same year, she and Jim were married, beginning a beautiful 60-year love story filled with family, friendship, and shared dreams.
They made their home in Folsom, then Wallingford, Pennsylvania, where they raised their family and built a life rich in love and community. Peg later earned her Master's Degree from Temple University in 1983, demonstrating her lifelong commitment to learning.
For 31 years, Peg dedicated herself to teaching elementary education in the Norristown Area School District and the Ridley School District. To her students, she was more than a teacher—she was a steady encouragement and a gentle guide. Her classroom was a place of learning and laughter, and she especially loved teaching second grade. She took great pride in helping young learners build confidence, curiosity, and kindness.
Summers were a special chapter in Peg's life. In Mystic Island, NJ, she and Jim created treasured memories with their children, extended family, and dear friends. Days were spent fishing, crabbing, boating, relaxing on the beach, and gathering around the table to share stories and meals. These summers nurtured a lifelong love of the shore that continued after her retirement in 1996, when she and Jim moved to Bethany Beach, DE. For 22 years, their home—affectionately known as "Camp Maiale"—was filled with the joyful chaos of visiting grandchildren and friendships, both old and new, whom they considered family.
Together, Peg and Jim shared a love of travel and adventure. They took trips with family and friends, they embraced every opportunity to see new places and create lasting memories. Their travels were never just about the destination, but about the laughter, stories, and togetherness along the way.
In 2018, Peg and Jim returned to Delaware County, Pennsylvania, settling at Maris Grove to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Nothing brought Peg greater happiness than being "Mom-Mom." She rarely missed a game, concert, graduation, or celebration. Her grandchildren remember her warm hugs, steady encouragement, and the way she made each of them feel uniquely cherished. Becoming a great-grandmother to Charles Jacob was one of her greatest joys.
She will always be remembered for her radiant smile and the unmistakable twinkle in her eye, as well as her life philosophy: the glass is always half full, everything works out, everything happens for a reason, and there is always a silver lining. That optimism carried her family through difficult times and made joyful times even brighter.
Peg will also be remembered for the care and intention she put into every relationship. She had a gift for staying connected. She loved sending cards, thoughtful emails, and quick texts—always reaching out to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, achievement, or simply to say she was thinking of you. Her calendar was always full with lunches, dinners, and get-togethers. She treasured time around a table, where conversation flowed easily, and everyone felt welcome. Family and friends alike knew they were never far from her thoughts.
One of Peg's greatest gifts was her ability to build and sustain meaningful friendships across every chapter of her life. The relationships she formed were not fleeting—they endured for decades and reflected the loyalty and love she carried in her heart. She remained close with her high school friends, teaching colleagues, neighborhood friends, and her Maris Grove community, who became like extended family. She embraced new friendships with the same warmth and openness that defined her entire life. No matter the season of life, she made space for friendship and, in doing so, created a legacy of love and connection that will endure in all.
Peg's life was a testament to love—love for her husband, her family, her friends, her students, and the simple joys of a day at the pool or beach. She will be remembered for her spirit, her generous heart, and the lasting imprint she left on all who were fortunate to know her.
Peg was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jim; her three-month-old son, Jimmy; and her parents, Phil and Madge (Kennedy) Marion. Though she carried these losses in her heart, she continued to live with grace, gratitude, and quiet strength. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Maiale Tipton; her son, Steve (Patti) Maiale; her five grandchildren, James (Meagan) Tipton, Amanda Tipton, Robert Tipton, Benjamin Maiale, and Jacob Maiale; her great-grandson, Charles Jacob Tipton; her brother, Phil (Mary Jo) Marion, numerous nieces and nephews, and extended family members whose lives were brightened by her kindness.
We thank you all for being a part of her life, which she described as being "truly blessed".
A private ceremony will be held.
