Obituary of Gerald C. Holt

Gerald "Gerry" Holt, a dedicated engineer, proud veteran, and cherished family man, passed away peacefully at the age of 96 in Glen Mills, Pennsylvania.

Born in Helena, Missouri, Gerry carried a lifelong spirit of curiosity and ingenuity that led him to pursue higher education and a distinguished career in engineering. After completing his degree, his dedication to his country led him to serve honorably in the Army during the Korean War.

Following his military service, Gerry embarked on a notable professional path. He was immensely proud of his work, which included contributing his engineering expertise to the historic Apollo spaceflight program (1961-1972). His contributions were part of a pivotal era in American history that  successfully landed the first humans on the Moon.

Gerry was by definition, an affable and good natured man. Very few things fazed him, and he had the uncanny ability to fall asleep within minutes of sitting down on a comfortable couch. He excelled at the art of bad joke telling, often forgetting the punchline for an extra laugh. But perhaps more than anything, Gerry will be remembered for his kindness to all those around him. He always greeted family, friends, and even complete strangers with a smile.

When he retired, Gerry fulfilled his dream by moving to Sarasota, Florida, where he and his wife Lila enjoyed the sunshine, community, and spending time with their growing family. They later relocated to the Maris Grove Retirement community to be closer to family.

Gerry was preceded in death by his wife Lila, who passed in 2021. He is survived by his three children, Curtis Holt (Vicki), Gail Grande (Joseph), and Scott Holt (Jacqueline), eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, all of whom will miss his kindness and steadfast presence.

As per Gerry's wishes, a private memorial will be held by his family members.
