Obituary of Edmund C. Rumford
Edmund C. Rumford, a fifty-five-year resident of N. Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully in the presence of his loving family on December 5, 2025 at Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware. He was eighty-six years old.
Born & raised in Chester, PA, to Edwin C. and Laura Opalczynski Rumford, Edmund graduated from Chester High School in 1957 and attended PMC (Widener College). He went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army and later enjoyed a long, thirty-seven-year career in customer service with Southco, Inc. in Concordville, PA.
Edmund was a man of many interests. He was known for painting rocks, gifting them to friends and family. He enjoyed golfing, bicycling and reading, and especially cherished time spent at his beach house, Angola by the Bay in Lewes, DE. He was also a longtime member of the Church of the Holy Child in Wilmington, DE.
In addition to his parents, Edmund is preceded in death by his beloved son, Edmund C. Rumford, Jr., in 2021, his brother, Edwin Rumford and sister Regina Czarnota.
Edmund is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 65 years, Jeannette K. Rumford (nee Carey); his daughter-in-law, Dawn Rumford; ; three grandchildren, Brenda (Wolfgang) Gelgec, Jessica (Michael) DiIenno, and Kelli Rumford; and 7 great-grandchildren, Laura, Michael, Abigail, Ayla, Cem, Eleanor & Cole.
Family and friends are invited to his viewing on Friday, December 12th from 9:30-11:00AM at the Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Road, Garnet Valley, PA followed by a Funeral Liturgy at 11AM. Entombment will take place at Lawn Croft Cemetery, Linwood, PA.
