Obituary of Joseph Matlock

Joseph P. "Joe" Matlock, age 78, of Boothwyn, PA, passed away on October 18, 2025.

Born in Pottsville, PA, Joe was raised in Brookhaven by his loving parents, Joseph and Marian White Matlock. He attended Our Lady of Charity grade school.

Joe was a proud graduate of St. James High School, Class of 1964, where he received the character award, which he lived up to for the rest of his days. He graduated from LaSalle University. He retired from SEPTA, where he worked as an accountant for many years. Joe was devoted to his Catholic faith and a member of St. John Fisher Church for the past 46 years.

An active and vibrant man, Joe enjoyed a variety of sports, including golf, tennis, and pickleball. He was an avid skier, the sport that led him to meet his wife. He imparted a love of sports to his daughters and spent countless hours helping them achieve their goals, including a long drive to a basketball tournament in Indianapolis in a car that barely made it.

As a young man, he enjoyed taking his family and friends out on his boat and they had many adventures on the water. He loved the beach, especially riding the waves.

He took pride in mowing his large lawn with a push mower and chopping his own wood for cozy winter fires by the wood burning stove. He enjoyed hosting family parties, especially his annual Christmas Eve party after Christmas Eve mass. The memory of Uncle Joe is greatly cherished by his family and many loving nieces and nephews.

Joe was strong and generous, especially with his time, always ready to help anyone who asked for it. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family—especially his beloved grandsons, Bobby and Joey—attending their sporting events and supporting them in all their endeavors.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his sister, Anne Marie Keough and her husband (Bob). Joe is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Della Mayer Matlock; two loving daughters, Elizabeth Clements (Robert) and Marilou Matlock; two siblings, Patricia Grant (Kenny) and Kathleen Linares (Ray); and his cherished grandsons, Bobby and Joey Clements.

A viewing for Joe will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 12:45 PM to 1:30 PM at St. John Fisher Catholic Church, 4225 Chichester Avenue, Boothwyn, PA, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:45 PM. Interment will remain private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. James Alumni Association at stjbulldogs.org.
