Obituary of Gary I. Herman
In Loving Memory of Gary I. Herman
Gary I. Herman, a cherished resident of Bethel Township for 55 years, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2025, at Lankenau Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was 85.
Born at Taylor Hospital to the late Ellsworth M. and Ellen Louise Herman, Gary was raised in Ridley Township, where he built the foundation of a life defined by service, strength, and deep devotion to family and community.
A proud graduate of Ridley Township High School, class of 1957 and a U.S. Army veteran, he served during the Vietnam era. Gary dedicated 49 years of service to PECO, working as a lineman and supervisor. His dedication to hard work and integrity earned the admiration of colleagues and friends alike.
Gary was the beloved husband of 58 years, Kathryn S. Herman (née Haigh) , with whom he shared a lifetime of love and partnership. He was a devoted father to Gary T. Herman (Stephanie), Cathryn Christy (Dean), and Bridget Serret (Christopher), and a proud and loving grandfather to Katherine Herman, Dillon and Naomi Christy, and Gabby and Cole Serret.
Gary’s passions included hunting, golfing, and time spent in the outdoors. He was a proud member of the Litil-Der-Buk Hunting Club and found great joy and camaraderie in the company of fellow sportsmen. His commitment to fellowship extended into his many years with the Concord Lodge 625 of the Free and Accepted Masons, where he served as a Past Worshipful Master. He was also a dedicated member of American Legion Post 777 and a faithful member of St. John's on the Hill Seniors. He cherished time with his canine friends, his English Springer Spaniels.
Gary's warmth, steady presence, and generous spirit touched the lives of many. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
