Obituary of John F. Mahoney Jr.

John "Jack" F. Mahoney Jr., age 83, of Glen Mills, PA, passed away on September 20, 2025, at Riddle Memorial Hospital.

Raised in Millersburg, PA, Jack resided for the past year in the Maris Grove community in Glen Mills, after living for 40 years in Quarryville, PA.

Jack dedicated his career to education, teaching mathematics in the Solanco School District for many years. He graduated from Millersburg High School. He received his undergraduate degree from Bloomsburg University and his master's degree in education from Millersville University. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and a past member of the Tucquan Lions Club.

Jack had a wide range of interests. He was an avid Philadelphia Eagles and Penn State fan, and at Maris Grove, he especially enjoyed participating in the Clay Club and Cardio Drumming. He loved attending concerts and plays, traveling—especially to Alaska—and spending time at Ocean City, NJ. In his younger years, he enjoyed weightlifting.

In addition to his parents, John F. Sr. and Ivy M. (Shaefer)Mahoney, Jack was preceded in death by his second wife, Betty Ann (Henninger) Mahoney.

He is survived by his loving wife of 12 years, Diane J. (Ganly) Mahoney; his daughters, Maureen (Steve) Metzker, Patricia (Dave) Devine, and Audrey (Cliff) Reese; his sister, Joan (Clair) Roadcap; and three grandchildren, Andrew (Alexandra) Metzker, Melissa (Derek Snyder) Metzker, and Colin Reese.

A visitation will be held on Monday, September 29, 2025, from 10:00–11:00 AM at Maris Grove Chapel, 200 Maris Grove Way, Glen Mills, PA, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place privately at a later date at Mt. Eden Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery, Quarryville, PA.
