Obituary of Daniel V. Bonner Sr.

Daniel V. Bonner Sr., age 92, of Brookhaven, PA, formerly of Folcroft, PA, passed away on August 25th. He was the devoted father of Daniel, Jr. (Tina), Sandra Holcombe, and Jeff (Miriam). Born on September 21, 1932 to the late Daniel and Catherine "Cassie" Bonner (Doherty), Daniel was raised in Philadelphia, PA. He attended Lincoln Prep High School. Daniel then went to work at US Gypsum in 1948 through 1952 as a Partition Block Machine Operator. In 1952, Daniel enlisted in the US Marine Corps. Daniel served in Korea, driving a jeep that carried wounded soldiers from the front lines to M*A*S*H units for treatment. After his discharge in 1955, Daniel returned to US Gypsum and remained through 1962. In 1962, Daniel began a 31 year career with General Electric Co., retiring in 1993 from the position of Manager Security & Distribution. Daniel always strove to improve himself and was recognized for his strong work ethic. Daniel rose continuously through the ranks until his ultimate retirement. Daniel met the love of his life, Caroline, when he was 15 years old and she was 13 years old. Daniel and Caroline were married on May 10, 1954. Eventually, the couple moved to the Delmar Village section of Folcroft, PA, where they raised their family. Daniel was known throughout Delmar Village as a good neighbor and a good friend. He served on the Folcroft Boys Club Board of Directors from 1960 to 1965. After his children were grown, Daniel and Caroline lived for a period of time in Boothwyn, PA, as well as Blakeslee, PA in the Pocono Mountains. Regardless of where he was living, Daniel was the rock foundation at the center of the family. He was the family mechanic, electrician, carpenter, chauffeur, and all around handy man. In addition to this, he was a counselor, teacher, and ultimately, friend to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Daniel became "Pop-Pop" to everyone he touched, providing strength and love that elevated all who he came in contact with. Daniel provided a safety net for his family as they grew and entered the world on their own. He truly was "the man who fixes the moon". In addition to his parents, Daniel was pre-deceased by his beloved wife, Caroline Bonner who passed in 2022, a loving brother and sisters, Dennis Bonner (Winnie), Helen Bonner, Katherine (Kaye) Cirillo, Gertrude Dean and John (Jack) Bonner. In addition to his children, he is survived by his grandchildren Jennifer Cisco (Eric), Erica Stout (Keith), Daniel III (Mary), Christopher, Amie Holcombe (Chris), Jeffrey Jr, Benjamin Holcombe, Sean and Joseph (Amanda), as well as 13 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. A visitation will be held on Friday, August 29th, from 9:15-10:00AM at Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Road, Garnet Valley, PA, followed by a service at 10:00AM.
