William Calhoun Jr.

Obituary of William Morrison Calhoun Jr.

William "Bill" Morrison Calhoun Jr., age 79, of Garnet Valley, PA, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025 while on vacation in Huntington Beach, CA. Born and raised in Chester, PA, Bill spent the last 45 years of his life raising his family in Bethel Township, Garnet Valley.

As a graduate of Chester High School, Class of 1964, Bill went on to earn his Bachelor's degree in Economics from PMC Colleges (now Widener University). He was a proud veteran, serving six years in the Army National Guard during the Vietnam War. Bill retired in 2002, after serving 33 years as a scout executive for the Boy Scouts of America. He was also a former member of the Rotary Club of Media.

Bill was a dedicated member of St. John's Episcopal Church, where he took great pride in watching his four cherished children grow and develop their own deep spirituality. He was an active contributor to the Vestry, Men’s Group, and Grounds Committee, driven by a deep passion for giving back to the community and ensuring the growth and longevity of the congregation and the facility he so dearly loved. Bill was known for his warm and genuine welcome to all, both new and longtime members, making everyone feel at home in the St. John’s community.

Aside from his family, church, and friends, Bill’s other loves were woodworking and gardening. He enjoyed collecting antiques and making and repairing furniture for his family and friends. Bill had a deep passion for the outdoors including fishing and gardening, especially for his beloved orchids, which he nurtured with great care and patience. Tending to them brought him immense joy, and his love for nature was evident in every bloom.

In addition to his parents, William Morrison Calhoun Sr. and Dorothy Simpson Calhoun, Bill was predeceased by his sister, Jeanette Sinclair. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Wanda “Melody” Baxter Calhoun; four children, William "Alex" Calhoun, Jennifer "Jen" (Commander Daniel Stock) Stock, Megan Calhoun, and Erin Calhoun; his sister, Kathryn (Gus Margetich) Margetich; and four grandchildren, Meredith, Charlotte "Charlie," Sean, and Sophia.
