Val was an amazing coach and an amazing person. I had the pleasure of playing for her 1994-1997. She cared for us on and off the field. We wanted to play our best for her in return. We were lucky to be Quakers under her guidance. Thank you, Val, for all the memories on Franklin Field.

I had the honor of playing for Val at Penn years 2002-06. My parents have told me Val pushed the admissions committee for my candidacy and for that I will be eternally grateful. In addition, she recruited my sister to join what became an ivy championship team. Val’s importance of family was very apparent- and that extended to her hockey family. She recruited some of the finest women I’ve met- my teammates will always be near and dear to my heart. Penn field hockey made my college experience- and Val was at the helm. I’ll always remember you yelling, “Passss!!” We knew we held onto the ball too long if that came up. Thank you, Val for all your support, instruction and mentorship. Your life and legacy will always be remembered.

I was at Concord HS Class of '73 where I had the fortune of having Ms. Miller as our field hockey coach, when we went undefeated for 2 years. She was so patient yet inspiring to us all and helped us develop a wonderful comradery on the team. I can still remember her yelling "yeeeeessssss" loudly when one of us would make a good play. She put so much positive energy into bringing out the best in us and helping us to love the game even more. Looking back and remembering her, I realize how much we all loved and respected her and appreciated her. It is so wonderful that she coached so many athletes over the years. I am so thankful for all the great memories. My prayers are with her family, God bless you all, Diane Singer Goodman

I was lucky to have Val as a coach for both Field Hockey and Lacrosse at Penn and then worked with her for many years as a Chair to the Field Hockey Alumnae group until her retirement. She was a loving inspiration to many and to me. Thank you Val for all your years of kindness and support to me. Love, Debra Censits Donnally

Val Cloud (Miller at the time) was my field hockey coach at Concord HS and was loved by all the players. We went undefeated for two years under her guidance and grace. Such fond memories of her. Truly blessed to have known her.
