Obituary of Bruce J. Hartmann
Bruce J. Hartmann, age 79, of Landenberg, PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on July 9, 2025.
Born in Wilmington, DE and raised in Springfield, PA, Bruce spent the past seven years in Landenberg. Prior to that, he lived for 40 years in Unionville and earlier in Newark, DE.
Bruce was a proud graduate of Springfield High School, Class of 1964, and enjoyed helping organize many class reunions.
Bruce earned his Bachelor and Master degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Delaware where he met the love of his life, Marie (Mimi) Staniszewski. Bruce worked for over 40 years as an engineer at E.H. Richardson Associates, Roy F. Weston, Chemical Leaman Tank Lines, and Tetra Tech. He later started his own environmental engineering consulting business.
Bruce was a man of many interests and always kept busy. He enjoyed working on his 1890 Victorian farmhouse and his many (old) cars. When not working as an engineer or tackling a DIY project, Bruce enjoyed sunsets, vacationing, listening to his Motown music, dancing with his wife, jet skiing, and snow skiing. He especially treasured family dinners and reunions, where he loved telling stories and reminiscing about family history and traditions. Bruce also had a great love of animals and had many dogs, cats, and horses over the years.
He was an avid football fan and especially loved the Philadelphia Eagles. He was a season ticket holder to University of Delaware football games for over 40 years. In his later years, he spent time relaxing at his waterfront home in North East, Maryland.
In addition to his parents, John Hartmann and Ruth Bowman Hartmann, Bruce was preceded in death by his sisters, Joan Gillan and Nancy Jordan. He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Marie Staniszewski Hartmann; his son, Bryce Hartmann, and daughter-in-law, Julie, along with their sons, Bryan, Evan and Dylan of Landenberg, and his daughter, Heidi Hartmann of North East. Bruce also leaves behind many beloved family members and close friends.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 25 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Malachi Church, 76 St. Malachi Road, Cochranville, PA. The family kindly requests family and friends share their memories of Bruce during the Celebration of Life, which will follow the burial at The Greathouse at Loch Narin Farm at 514 McCue Road, Avondale, PA, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bruce's memory may be made to St. Malachi Church (olcchurch.org), LaMancha Animal Rescue (lamanchaanimalrescue.org) or the American Heart Association (heart.org).
