Obituary of Doris Elaine Borger

Doris Elaine Borger, age 76, of Garnet Valley, PA, passed away on June 22, 2025, at Riddle Memorial Hospital.

Born in Gloucester City, NJ to Richard Hawkins and Gladys Lowe, Doris lived the past 12 years in Garnet Valley, PA. She previously resided in Audubon, NJ, and was a longtime resident of Haddon Township, NJ.

Elaine worked as a school aide at the Haddon Township High School District for 16 years before retiring in 1999. In addition, she supported her community by running the snack bar at the Haddon Township Little League.

Devoted to her faith, Elaine and her late husband, John, were founding members of Emmanuel United Methodist in Oaklyn NJ., where she volunteered weekly, serving meals and worked in the church office. She later became a member of Haddonfield United Methodist Church, where her children performed with the new sound concert choir and bell choir,provided many meaningful memories and personal relationships. Elaine loved day trips to Cape May and especially enjoyed dining at The Lobster House. She was a lifelong fan of Jimmy Buffett and enjoyed Disney's "Goofy".

In addition to her father Richard Hawkins, Elaine is preceded in death by her mother & stepfather, Gladys and Elmer Cheeseman; her husband, John W. Borger III; her brother, Lawrence Hawkins; and her companion, William Middleton.

She is survived by her son, John W. Borger IV; her daughter, Stacey (Daniel) Maloney; her grandchildren, Kai and Aaron Borger, and Haley, Sean, and Ryan Maloney. She is also survived by her cousin, Betty Hamelin; her best friend, Beverly Parsons; and her step sister-in-law, Marianne Cheeseman. Elaine would always say to her family that Bette Midler's "Wind beneath my wings" is a song that she dedicates to her mother, her children, and grandchildren would like to now dedicate the song back to grandmom.

Mom will always be remembered for her kindness and loving support of her children and grandchildren. Grandmom loved every hug and story from her grandchildren and wishes upon them all continued daily acceptance and love, and encourages them to continue reflecting kindness and love to cherished people in their own lives.
