Obituary of Marie J. Costa
Marie (D'Alessandro, Mingione) Costa, born in Philadelphia, PA, on August 18, 1934, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2025.
Marie was married to her husband, Anthony, for 65 years. She attended St. Cecilia and St. Roberts elementary schools and later graduated from Notre Dame High School in Moylan, PA. After high school, she continued her education at Keystone Secretarial School.
She began her professional career at Scott Paper Company in Philadelphia, where she worked for eight years. After dedicating several years to raising her family, she resumed her career at DuPont-Merck Pharmaceutical Company in Wilmington, DE, retiring after 20 years of service.
A devout Catholic, Marie was deeply involved in her faith and community. She volunteered regularly at the schools her children attended and following her retirement, dedicated over 28 years as a volunteer at Riddle Memorial Hospital. Marie cherished her time with friends, enjoyed traveling, and loved spending summers at her home in Cape May, NJ. She had a lifelong passion for music, playing both the violin and piano and was a proud member of her high school orchestra.
Above all, Marie's greatest joy was being with her children and grandchildren—especially when playing dominoes and other family games.
She will be dearly missed by her husband, Anthony; her loving children, Donna Costa-White (Rick), Lauretta O'Malley (Dan), Anthony Costa and Jennifer Costa Wilkins; her grandchildren, Eric White (Gracyn), Lauren O'Malley, Jacob Wilkins, and Valerie Wilkins; her sister, Ida Ottino; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Maria (Mingione) and Nazareno D'Alessandro, her grandson, Stephen White and her brother, Louis Mingione.
A Receiving of Friends will be held at St. John Fisher Church in Upper Chichester, PA, on Monday, June 23rd from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m., and final interment at Lawn Croft Cemetery in Linwood, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Shatterproof.org, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to reversing the addiction crisis by transforming the way addiction is treated and perceived.
