Obituary of Joan M. Smith

Joan M. Smith, age 87, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2025, at Christiana Hospital in Wilmington.

Born and raised in Chester, PA, Joan spent most of her life in Upland, PA, before relocating to Wilmington two years ago. A graduate of Chester High School, Class of 1955, Joan went on to work as a bookkeeper in the banking industry until her retirement.

Joan was an avid home cook and a passionate recipe collector. She delighted in sharing meals with loved ones, but above all, her greatest joy in life were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the heart of her world.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Warren J. Smith (2008); her parents, Arthur and Margaret Downs Evans; her sisters, Ruth Townsend and Anna "Maise" Ballance; and her granddaughter, Heather Smith (1991).

Joan is survived by her four devoted children: Linda (Robert) Jarman, Kenneth (Peg) Smith, Gary (Debbie) Smith, and Jason (Sue) Smith; her sister, Jean Kirkpatrick; nine cherished grandchildren: Kenny (Trish) Smith, Danny Smith, Joey (Jen) Smith, Rob (Katie) Jarman, Rachael Jarman, Josh (Monica) Smith, Adam Smith, Hannah Smith, and Addy Smith; and seven adored great-grandchildren: Shane, Jake, Nolan, Joey, Cole, Fitz, and Breck.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Tuesday, June 17th, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Rd., Garnet Valley, PA, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place at Lawn Croft Cemetery, Linwood, PA.
