Obituary of A. Irene Redden
A. Irene Redden, age 100, was born on May 11, 1925, in Chadds Ford, PA, to William Henry Butler and Emma Louise Talley Butler. As a young woman, she helped start a Sunday School program at her church in Concordville, PA, and was a faithful member of Elam Methodist Church on Smithbridge Road. She was especially proud of the home her husband Franklin built for her on Smithbridge Road in Concord Twp. where she lived for 63 years. In addition to her parents, Irene is preceded in death by her first husband, Franklin Chandler and her second husband, Robert Redden Jr., her oldest daughter, Gloria Chandler Froeschle; and her stepson, Ralph Redden. She was also preceded in death by her siblings: Mildred Butler Zebly, Helen Butler Teat, Ester Butler Journey, Mary Butler Leevan, Harry Butler, Robert Butler, William Butler, and Henrietta Butler Coulbourn. She is survived by her daughters, Irene Chandler Ferguson Mary Jane Chandler Schmidt; and Emily Redden Boulden (John); stepsons, Robert Redden III, and Eugene Redden; her sister, Lillian Butler Weekes; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. Irene had a passion for crocheting and lovingly created scarves, mittens, sweaters, ponchos, and socks for her family and friends. Irene loved to dance and ensured her daughters had the opportunity to attend dance school in their youth. She was a devoted mother and took immense pride in being a grandmother, great-grandmother, and especially in her title as great-great-grandmother of eight. A viewing will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Rd., Garnet Valley, PA, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM.
