Obituary of Catherine M. Dougherty
Catherine "Cathy" M. Dougherty (nee Richards) age 79, of Boothwyn, PA, a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother, passed away peacefully at home on May 11, 2025.Cathy was born in Philadelphia on August 19th, 1945 to Carl and Catherine Richards, the youngest of four children. She was raised in Southwest Philadelphia, and spent the past 16 years in Upper Chichester, having previously lived in Sharon Hill where she raised her family. She was a proud graduate of West Catholic High School for Girls, Class of 1963In her earlier years, Cathy worked as an administrative assistant for General Electric. She later held positions at Widener University, Monsignor Bonner High School, and the Society of the Holy Child Jesus before retiring in 2010. Cathy carried her faith throughout her life as a devout Catholic and active member of St. John Fisher Catholic Church.Cathy was known for her love of casinos, her knack for planning family trips—especially to the Poconos—and her enthusiasm for bowling, having participated in several leagues over the years. She also enjoyed watching the Phillies with her husband and attending her grandchildren's sporting events. In quieter moments, she found joy in writing poetry and song parodies.Above all, Cathy treasured time spent with her large and loving extended family.She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Catherine (Ewasko) Richards; her son, Steven Dougherty; her brother, Carl Richards; and her sister, Helen Moyer.Cathy is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years, Edward J. Dougherty; her children, Sean (Michele) Dougherty, Michael (Chris) Dougherty, Karen (Peter) Murray, and Meghan Saulin; her former son-in-law, Robert Saulin; her sister, Elsie McKee; her beloved grandchildren, Matthew, Brendan, Robert, Michael, Daniel, Isabelle, and Wren; and many nieces and nephews.A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at St. John Fisher Catholic Church, 4225 Chichester Avenue, Boothwyn, PA, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM.
