Obituary of James Joseph Preston

James Joseph "JJ" Preston, age 82, of Folsom, PA, passed away peacefully at his residence on May 8, 2025.

Born in Chester, PA to the late David and Rosina Hendry Preston, Jim was a longtime resident of Folsom, where he lived for the past 53 years. He proudly worked as a Service Engineer for Boeing for an impressive 60 years.

Jim was a true car enthusiast who loved researching, buying and detailing cars. He was devoted to his grandchildren and could always be found cheering them on at all their games and events. Jim also enjoyed spending time at the shore and making family breakfasts, playing Texas Hold’em with friends and family, going out to dinner and feeding the wildlife in his yard.

Known for his outgoing and social nature, Jim spent time bartending at local establishments including Pep's Saloon, Burk's Bend, and Mikey's, where he made many friends over the years and was known for his love of Budweiser.

He is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Barbara Colubiale Preston; his daughters, Doré Gantz (Chris) and Alicia Preston (Chrissy Devlin); his brother, Robert Preston (Marty); his cherished grandchildren, Vienna, Van, Leah, Reese, and Aidan and his many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church, 950 Michigan Ave., Swarthmore, PA, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in James's memory may be made to the Brandywine Valley SPCA or Salem County Humane Society.
