Obituary of Mary Jane McGroarty
Mary Jane McGroarty, age 92, of Glen Mills, PA, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2025, at Truewood by Merrill, Glen Riddle.
Born in Philadelphia and raised in S.W. Philadelphia, Mary Jane resided in Media. She previously lived in the Fox Hill Farm community in Glen Mills and in Aldan, PA, where she lovingly raised her family. A proud graduate of West Catholic Girls High School, Class of 1950, Mary Jane devoted her life to her family and faith.
A homemaker at heart, Mary Jane was a woman of deep Catholic faith. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Glen Mills and formerly belonged to St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Collingdale, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was a member of the Bonner Mothers' Club while her sons were in high school as well as the Red Hat Society at Fox Hill Farms in later years. Mary Jane treasured her time spent at the family's second home in Sea Isle City. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and sharing countless memories together.
Mary Jane was the beloved daughter of the late Edward and Sarah (McReynolds) Flood. She was preceded in death by her husband, William J. McGroarty, who passed in 2016; six siblings—Edward, Michael, Francis, Hugh, and James Flood, and Peggy Lutz; and her son-in-law, Steve Brookes. She is survived by her five children: Peggy (Bob) Rankin, Bill (Helen), Michael (Liz), Chuck (Terry), and Kevin (Tina) McGroarty; two siblings, Daniel Flood and Sally Lydon; 20 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way.
A visitation will be held on Monday, April 28th, from 6:00–8:00 PM, and again on Tuesday, April 29th, from 9:00–10:00 AM, at the Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Road, Garnet Valley, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church (New Church), 430 Valleybrook Road, Glen Mills, PA. Interment will take place at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Springfield, PA.
