Obituary of Dorothy Blickle

Dorothy "Dot" Blickle, age 97, passed away on April 10, 2025 at Riddle Memorial Hospital in Media, PA.

Born in New York City, NY, and raised in both New York and Egg Harbor, NJ, Dot spent the last 2½ years residing in Glen Mills, PA. She was a longtime resident of Beaufort, NC with her husband Bill. She loved the area and had multiple close friends. During the 1970s, she and her husband lived in Iran for several years—an experience she remembered fondly.

During WWll, she patriotically served her country as a typist for the FBI while her brother Bill (William) served in the submarine service in the Pacific theater. Dot married William (Bill) Blickle in 1948 and as they moved every two years for Bill's work with AT&T. Dot decided to become a devoted homemaker. Her daughter, Joan (Joanie) arrived in 1953, and Dot took on the roll as mother which4AF89 she absolutely loved. Upon Bill's retirement in the early 1980s, they moved to Beaufort, NC for the boating and fishing. For many years, they owned and managed the local Chrysler boat dealership, Carteret Sports Center.

Dot was a devoted member of Shepherd of the Sea Lutheran Church in Atlantic Beach, NC.

Dot had a lifelong love for healthy eating, swimming, music, and boating, but mostly cherished spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Janet Burton Herzog; her beloved husband, William Blickle, who passed in 2012; and her brother, William Herzog, who passed in 2011.

Dot is survived by her daughter, Joan Proffitt; her brother, Donald Herzog; her grandchildren, Pamela Walls and Stephanie Walls; five great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews: Janet May, Thomas Herzog, Donnie Herzog, Cleopha Herzog Chartier, and Joann Herzog.

A visitation will be held on Friday, May 2nd at 11:00am at the Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Rd Garnet Valley, PA, immediately followed by a memorial service. Interment will be held privately.
