Lucy's gentle spirit and kindness, combined with her quiet tenacity, was inspiring. It was a privilege to be her teammate over the past 6 years. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.

My sincere sympathies to the family. She is gone entirely too soon.
May your memories sustain you and bring you peace.
I worked with Lucy in Delaware City and always found Lucy to be cheerful and pleasant. It was always enjoyable conversing with Lucy. She had such a zest for life.

Lucy literally saved my life. When I was four years old, I accidentally fell in a pool and did not know how to swim. I clearly remember Lucy’s arm outstretched and pulling me out of the water. She could not have been 10 or 11 years old herself. From a young age, this is who Lucy was … arms outstretched to those around her. What a loving, courageous soul. This world was a kinder place for having her amongst us.

To my Aunt Lucy,
I still cherish the memories of visiting your homes in Chadds Ford and Atlanta. You taught us to be brave, kind, and good people overall. You will always remain in our minds and hearts.
With love,
Gianfranco and Elisa

As an international student, it’s really rare to find someone who makes you feel truly at home in a new country—but Lucy did just that. Not only for my best friend Hedy, but for me too.
Back in high school, every visit or sleepover at Lucy and Marty’s felt like such a treat. Their home was always filled with warmth, laughter, and the best food. Some of my favorite memories are from hanging out in their kitchen, learning new recipes and following Lucy’s instructions while we cooked together. She was so kind, so sweet, and had such a gentle, caring way of making you feel welcome.
Lucy and Marty were always there for Hedy—whether it was high school proms, school events, graduations, or helping her to move to a new city. Watching Lucy take care of her and cheer her on through all of life’s big moments was really touching. Their bond was something so special, and I always felt lucky to witness it.
Lucy made such a difference in our lives. I’ll always remember her warmth, her kindness, and the way she made me feel like family. I’m really grateful to have known her.

Lucy meant so much to me—not just as a host mom, but as someone who made me feel truly loved, safe, and supported while I was still figuring out who I was. I feel incredibly lucky to have had her in my life.
I came to the U.S. at 15, knowing no one. I struggled in my first homestay and didn’t feel like I belonged—until I joined your home in my second year. That changed my life. For the first time, I felt like I had a home here. A real one.
In my mind, her final image is still from that afternoon last summer. I had brought Stitch (my dog) with me to visit. She was sitting in the sunroom at home, bathed in soft, warm light.
That sunroom was her favorite spot—filled with touches of her Ecuadorian roots: warm-toned cushions, little ornaments, plants, and the comforting scent of spices. She loved sitting there, reading, sipping her chai tea, soaking in the sun like a princess, and chatting peacefully. I’m so grateful that’s how I remember her—calm, radiant, and at peace.
Lucy came to the U.S. as an international student from Ecuador and later met Marty. Their love was the first example I ever saw of the kind of marriage I wanted to believe in. I didn’t grow up seeing many healthy relationships, so I never really knew what a good partnership looked like—until I saw Lucy and Marty together. She’d always say with a proud little smile, “Marty is an amazing husband.” It was the sweetest thing. The love and respect they had for each other was so real and inspiring.
During the two years I lived with the Stommers, they treated me like their own. Lucy drove me to school every day, bought me my favorite cookies and ice cream, and always surprised me with little things that made me feel so loved. Lucy and I both loved tropical fruit-flavored ice cream, chai tea, smoothies, and cookies. I remember those little things so clearly—the way she lit up when she ate her favorite mango ice cream. I remember our morning rides to school, the music, the chats. She encouraged me in every way and always believed in me.
We shared so many important moments together. They celebrated my birthdays, and they showed up for my graduations—every single one, even when my own mom couldn’t be there. They made me feel seen, loved, and supported in ways I’ll never forget. Whenever I moved to a new apartment, they would ship me things I needed for my home. Every time I needed help, they were there—without hesitation. They were, and still are, a gift in my life. Knowing them, being loved by them, is one of the greatest blessings I’ve ever had. They are truly incredible human beings.
She was also one of the most open-hearted and accepting people I’ve ever known. Being around her made me feel safe to be myself, and that kind of acceptance is something I’ll hold onto forever.
What I admired most was her balance—she was mature, thoughtful, and deeply understanding. She always carried herself with kindness and calm. But at the same time, she was funny and had this effortless, cool energy. She was the kind of woman I looked up to—not just for her strength, but for how real and thoughtful she was.
Lucy is one of the strongest women I’ve ever met. I admire her courage deeply. She came to a new country in her twenties and built such a full, beautiful life here. I can’t imagine how hard that journey must have been, but she did it all with strength, grace, and love. She was, and will always be, my role model.
I love her. And I always will.
With all my heart,
Hedi

I spent two wonderful and fun-filled years in class with Lucy at the Alexandria VoTech. There were four of us that spent a lot of time together, in class and out-of-class. We often had great adventures filled with riotous laughter. Lucy was such a great friend, she was so warm, bright, curious, and compassionate. She was also such a good sport when we laughed and teased her about misspeaking because of the silly English language. Thank you for your friendship, Lucy, and luckily, you can use your angel wings to get around and won’t need “cable jumps” when your car doesn’t start!

I'll always remember my sister from another mister!! I'm so glad mom and dad said yes back in 1977 when I asked if we could host an exchange student in our home. She became part of our family and her family became part of ours with lots of visits back and forth between Ecuador and Minnesota. Thank you so much for being able to come last year for mom's 100th birthday party. It was a great surprise!!! We love you all so very much and remember, when you look to the skies at night and you see the brightest star looking back at you; it's Lucy; in all her shining glory!!! Love you!!!

Lucy was a bright light in my life when she, Marty & Steph transferred to Delaware to work. Always positive, so very intelligent, with a wisp of humor.
Prayers for the family that memories in their hearts will help to ease the sadness. I loved my Lucy!

I got to work with Lucy at Gore for many years. She was such a positive, professional and caring person. She always went above to help others at work and would help me especially by running sales report for compliance needs. During our years working together, I got to hear about her family and the special events. Sending my deepest condolences to the Stommer family. Lucy was a wonderful colleague and special person and we will miss her.
