Obituary of John Hamilton Twaddell Jr.

John Hamilton Twaddell, Jr., age 96, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at home with his family on March 8, 2025. John was born to John Hamilton Twaddell, Sr., and Sarah Elizabeth Drew Twaddell on March 1, 1929, in Wilmington, DE. John spent his adolescent years in Lima, PA until his marriage in 1953 when he moved to Wilmington, DE. John graduated from Media High School in 1946 and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked for Diamond State Telephone Company for 36 years, retiring in 1984. John was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge # 11. In his adolescent years, John loved playing baseball and softball. He played baseball and softball through his 40's reaching AAA status. He had a passion for cars and took great pride in keeping them looking brand spankin' new. He cherished his time at the DeNenno farm, where he and his friends, who eventually became family, were constantly up to some sort of mischief. He treasured summer family time spent at the seashore in Wildwood, NJ. In his retired years, John enjoyed traveling, spending time with his family, going out with "the Breakfast Club", and catching up with his lifelong friends. He had a knack for creating a beautiful lawn (even up until he was 95!). He had a love for the simpler things in life, his greatest being his family. He took pride in being a devoted husband to his soulmate Dolores whom he took care of up until his last few days. John is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Betty Twaddell Hutton and Bonnie Twaddell Harrigan. He is survived by his loving wife, Dolores Catherine DeNenno Twaddell; his children, Karen Buckley (Bob), John H Twaddell III (Bobbi J), Robert Twaddell, and Lee Twaddell (Tracy); and his grandchildren, Samantha Twaddell, Derek Buckley (Andrea), Matthew Twaddell (Suzanne), Marissa Verdi (Tom), Lauren Capone (Nicholas), and John H Twaddell IV. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren; Zara, Aiden, Harper, Este, and Archer.
