Obituary of Norman Hughes Stoops

Norman Hughes Stoops, age 89, of Garnet Valley, PA, passed away on March 5, 2025, at Naamans Creek Country Manor.

Born in Chester, PA, and raised in Elkton, MD, on a dairy farm, Norman lived in Garnet Valley for the past three years, having previously resided in Upper Chichester, PA, and Delaware. He worked as a truck driver for Herr's Motor Inc and, prior to that, for Greggs Bus Services, now known as Krapf Coaches, Inc. He was a truck/bus driver for 44 years.

 

Affectionately known as "Storming Norman," he had a passion for collecting Hess trucks and coins. He also enjoyed Spam sandwiches, peanut brittle, and, most of all, spending time with his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A devoted animal lover, Norman cherished his dogs, Heidi and Tia.

 

In addition to his parents, Jesse and Mary Corcoran Stoops, he was preceded in death by his children, Norman W. Stoops, Allan Stoops, and Eugene Stoops; his stepdaughter, Sharon Curl; and his siblings, Geraldine Plessanton and Jack Stoops; and his grandson Michael Stoops.

 

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Louise C. Curl-Stoops; daughter Patty (David) Ford; his sons, Patrick (Jaime) Stoops, Robert (Cari) Usher, stepchildren, Paulanna Beaver, Allan Curl, Mark Curl, Martin Curl, and his brother, David Howard (Denise) Stoops; as well as his grandchildren, Matthew Stoops, Nicole Stoops, Sara (Darren) Houser, and Katarina Curl. He also leaves behind 12 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
