Obituary of Susan Christine Martin

Susan Christine Martin, age 81, of Tinton Falls, NJ, passed away on March 4, 2025, at Park Lane Post Acute in West Chester, PA. Born in Brooklyn, NY, where the Naval hospital was located, she was raised in Coronado, CA, and New Shrewsbury, NJ. Susan had resided in Tinton Falls, NJ for the past 24 years, having previously lived in Proctor, VT and Fair Haven, NJ, where she raised her family. A graduate of Red Bank High School in 1961, Susan went on to earn her associate degree from Green Mountain College in Vermont. She worked as an administrator for TRW, a defense contractor, for over 20 years before retiring in 2009. In addition to her parents, Robert (Bob) Hopping and Isabel (Betty) Madsen, Susan was preceded in death by her siblings, Christopher Madsen, Muffy Hall, and Carolyn Cushman. She is survived by her sons, Eric (Wendy) Bartenstein and Kurt (Kristy) Bartenstein; her sister, Elizabeth, aka Betsy, (Frank) Grasso; and six beloved grandchildren, Peter, Emily, Anna, Gretchen, Abbey, and Brody. Throughout her life Susan found a certain peace in giving back, whether it was teaching Sunday School, volunteering with various charities or helping out at a special thrift shop. She had a passion for nature and animals and trying new recipes. She cherished time spent with family and friends, but nothing brought her greater joy than being with her grandchildren. She will be remembered with love by special friends, cousins, nieces and nephews, a sister…but above all by her sons and their wives and her grandchildren. Family was her anchor and her joy.
