Obituary of William J. Hynes

William "Bill" J. Hynes, age 85 of Wilmington, DE passed away on February 23, 2025 at Foulk Living. Born in Philadelphia and raised in Wilmington, DE, Bill has been a longtime resident of North Wilmington, DE, previously residing in Chesapeake City, MD. Bill was an auto mechanic for Courtesy Ford, and DelDot. He was employed by the state of DE for years and also the Ferris School prior to retiring. Bill was a member of the Church of the Holy Child and had over 40 years sobriety (AA). He was handy and enjoyed mechanical repairs, nature, trees, boating, and in his younger years he enjoyed water skiing. In addition to his parents, John F. Hynes, MD, and Martha Kreer Hynes, Bill is preceded in death by five siblings, Robert, David and John Hynes, Joan Mitchell, and Mary Hinchliffe. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Hilde Hynes, three children, James Hynes (Pat), Marie (Thomas) Owens, and Christine (Peter) Grims, five grandchildren, David (Jerlen) Hynes, Cameron (Cassandra) Campbell, Kasandra Campbell, Claudia and Jake Grims, 2 great-grandchildren, Chloe and Carson Campbell, cousin, Fr. John Hynes, and is also survived by many other cousins and extended family. A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, from 9:00 AM-10:00 AM at The Church of the Holy Child, 2500 Naamans Rd, Wilmington, DE., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM.
