Eugene Paul "Gene" Guyer, age 71 of Wilmington, DE, passed away on January 9, 2021 at Wilmington Hospital due to complications from Covid. Born in Marcus Hook, PA to Earl and Elizabeth Ella Lincoln Guyer, Gene was raised in Marcus Hook and resided in Wilmington, DE for the last 20 years. Gene graduated from Penncrest High School in 1967; he became an Electrician working for Sun Ship in Chester, and retired from Kimberly-Clark Company after 32 years. His legacy was his love of family and his music. Gene started his music career when he was 7 years old, spanning over 64 years. He became a lead guitarist in various bands, and his greatest joy was sharing the last 15 years performing on stage with his daughter Mary, with Society's Child, Jesse Garron's Tribute to Elvis and Stepchild. He has inspired and given so much to so many people with his talent, especially his children and grandchildren. Gene is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Patricia McClure Guyer, four children, Lisa (Frank) Smagala, Mark Eugene (Lucy) Guyer, Carrie (Dan) Megahan, and Mary (Tony) Fontana, mother-in-law, Mildred McClure, siblings, Earl (Judy) Guyer and Betty (Teddy) McGrath, as well as 8 grandchildren, Sadie, Rylie, Raegan, A.J., Mimi, M.J., Knox and Wren, and so many brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. Gene was a dedicated husband, loving father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was a gentle, quiet, giant man who was loved and respected. He always put his family and friends first above himself. Our hearts are forever broken, but there is comfort in knowing that Gene trusted in the Lord, and knew that when he arrived in Heaven, he would be playing in the greatest band of ALL! Due to the Covid pandemic, services will remain private, and a celebration of life will occur at a later date. Donations in Gene's name may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Fund (www.jdrf.org).
