Obituary of Walter P. Lyons

Walter P. Lyons, age 88, passed away on Sunday, August 14th, 2016 at Naamans Creek Country Manor. Born in Chester, he was raised in Boothwyn, PA and later graduated from Boothwyn High School, class of 1944. Walter was a machinist and retired after 35 years as a foreman for Sun Oil in 1984. He was an avid bowler in various leagues including the Sun Oil Bowling League serving as secretary/treasurer for many years. He also was the president and treasurer of the Sun Honor Club and sat on the Board of the Sun East Federal Credit Union. He was an avid NASCAR fan and was the owner/mechanic of a stock car participating in the first Daytona 500. He later received an honorary award on behalf of his long time friend & driver Jack Hart for their contributions to the sport of racing in NJ. Recently he received the "Good Guy" award from the Marcus Hook Oldtimers. In his earlier years he coached baseball in theTrainerTeenerLeague. His greatest pleasure most certainly was spending his retirement years at his beach home in Rehobeth Beach surrounded by his children and grandchildren. Walter is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Alice Senior Lyons, and brother, Carl Lyons. Walter is survived by his wife of 59 years, Janet Marie Lyons (Stevens), daughters, Debra (Mike) Pubusky, Pamela (Dan) Nagle and Kim (Gary) DiIorio, sister, Dorothy Hays, and grandchildren, Abby and Ben Pubusky and Connor Nagle. Relatives and friends are invited to Walter's Funeral Service at Pagano Funeral Home on Friday from 10:00 - noon at 3711 Foulk Rd, Garnet Valley, PA. Burial will follow immediately thereafter at Lawn Croft Cemetery, Linwood, PA. The family is asking that donations in lieu of flowers be made in Walter's name to: Heartland Memorial Fund / 5 Christy Drive #103 / Chadds Ford, Pa. 19317
